My Scorpio is brutally opinionated, which is especially hard to deal with when the impossible standards and negative opinions are directed at a super-sensitive, overreacting Pisces. If I fire back, he gets even nastier. If I cry, he feels guilty and I like how he acts when he feels guilty (tries hard to make up for it). Sometimes I wonder if he says things just to get my attention or subdue me – because a lot of times I am off in another world writing a song or writing an article about history, politics, or religion. He tells me often, “You’re too smart.” I don’t think he means that, I just think he’s jealous of the time I spend philosophizing and writing instead of focusing on him more often.

Whenever I have done something he doesn’t like (and he’s always testing me), he gives me the silent treatment because he knows neglect and feeling ignored is the worst punishment I can imagine from my love. But I’m not the typical “roll over and play dead” Pisces either. As revenge for his neglect, I have deliberately made him feel jealous. Once I put a profile on a “matching” website and listed HIS EMAIL as the one that receives the notifications of interest. I wanted to prove to him that I am a desirable woman who should not be taken for granted. I did not pursue anyone else. I did that just to burn him, because I was sick of his treatment. There is nothing worse for him than feeling like someone else desires his woman.

He can be manipulative to me and our kids, likes to play tricks on us and make fun of us. I’ve taught them all to stop listening to their dad when he’s like that, because I consider their developing mental health worth undermining his authority due to his occasional cruel/oppressive behavior. He thinks children should be molded to be what we want them to be, but I think children should be free to be who they are as long as they learn to follow our rules.

I have a tendency to be sloppy/scattered or slow at getting chores done, and he can’t stand it and will make me feel ungraceful or lazy. That hurts. He is a neat freak. I can’t stand that. I think that stems from his need to have everything in order, because he doesn’t clean for cleanliness (like sanitizing), he cleans for orderliness (having things it its place). When I would like for us all to sit down and read a book together, he’s huffing and puffing about toys on the floor. It’s annoying, and for someone like me, I can’t imagine why such things would affect someone’s mood to the degree that it bothers him. To me, it’s the health of relationships that affect me, but to him it’s the condition of things or aspects of life – like having a spotless house or having dinner ready on time.

I don’t consider us very compatible on a day-to-day basis. However, if I look at the big picture, what keeps us going until now, after a 6-month-long separation at one point – is his loyalty to me, protectiveness and possessiveness of me, and his grounded financial/familial stability which I admire and never had in my life until I met him. He’s just as loyal to our kids and would never abandon any of them, or turn them away if they needed something. He would never walk away from me or our kids. I was the one who left him and went back to my family. One day, he heard that I was sent to the hospital for a minor surgery and he rushed my side and took me back to our house and never let me go. That’s how we got back together. He brings me down-to-earth and reminds me of reality, which I don’t like but I need. As I’ve matured, I come to appreciate him much more. And as I appreciate him more and have stopped resisting his every judgment, his day-to-day mood continues to improve. What he likes about me is that I have transcended my poor upbringing to be a high-minded, spiritual, mystical, conservative person who cares deeply about the world and its problems (something my family doesn’t care about). He’s proud of my sense of morality and is relieved to have a wife who is a mother with a good influence on her kids. I don’t drink, smoke, do drugs, or have any addictions, which he respects a lot. He also likes my taste in fashion, interiors, and admires my acting, singing, and artistic abilities (but he does not let me pursue an active, public lifestyle because he is a jealous and possessive person and is afraid he will lose me if I pursue it). My relationship with my husband and kids is more important than publicizing my talents, so I respect his wishes with that. And he respects my respect.
